Besides being Belgian like me, it’s Kim Mee Hye‘s clean, neat and refined lines that caught my eyes. Kim is a Korean born, Belgium raised designer and launched her namesake brand in 2008. Her current Blossom Topic collection includes flower petals which are made of white or black diamond or ruby. The stems are 18-carat white, yellow or pink gold. Everything is handcrafted in Antwerp’s finest ateliers. The collection is very elegant and feminine just as a blossom can be too, with a luxurious feel to it. You become one when wearing one of the refined pieces.
“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” as written by Marcel Proust in his In Search of Lost Time-novel.
One hundred years later, each of these words resonates when looking at Kim Mee Hye’s latest collection entitled Blossom Topic.
Building on her Asian heritage and Belgian artisanship, Kim Mee Hye creates refined jewelry dressed as poems and inspired by flowers. The fluid earrings are floating, caressing the skin as if suspended in an imaginary garden. Each ring’s delicate curves hug the wearer’s feminine fingers, causing object and body to delicately unite.
Kim Mee Hye creates timeless jewelry that is simple, rough and refined at the same time. Every single piece which celebrates intimacy and hidden luxury, as well as a strong sense of freedom. Handcrafted from Antwerp’s finest ateliers, her modern designs go beyond fine jewelry, incorporating sophisticated and invisible mechanisms that allow each piece to be worn in more than one fashion, leaving room for each woman to decipher its beauty in their own refined extravagance way.
Q&A with Kim:
The Blossom Topic Collection is inspired from the fruit tree flowers, but why did this inspire you?
Where came the idea for this collection come from? What does “Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” by Marcel Proust has to do with the collection?
I have designed for this collection refined jewelry dressed as poems and inspired by flowers. The fluid earrings are floating, caressing the skin as if suspended in an imaginary garden. Each ring’s delicate curves hug the wearer’s feminine fingers, causing object and body to delicately unite.
It is revisiting how diamonds can be worn. It is enhancing fragility as a key feature of modern women of any age. The purity and subtlety of the designs create a different view of luxury, one that is unique to each of us, that ultimately becomes us, until it makes our souls blossom. It is why the beautiful statement of Marcel Proust was the perfect one to celebrate this new collection.
What’s your favorite piece in the Blossom Topic collection and why?
I love the blossom ring with the 1.1 carats of white diamond. wearing this beautiful stone with the very stem in gold and attachment (kind of invisible) make this ring very delicate.
Who wears Kim Mee Hye jewelry? What kind of woman is she?
Women that understand design and that like to wear diamonds and stones in a different way. I am talking to women that want to show their personality by wearing luxury in their own way.

What does creating jewelry mean to you? What do you like about it? How does designing make you feel?
Jewelry is about very small scale design that has to suit to your body and that has to be wearable every day. It is a lot of challenge and I really like to push the boundary in the big picture of what jewelry is today. Trying to be innovative in each collection we propose to our clients.

Regarding her work, Kim creates the jewelry pieces she always dreamed of wearing herself, following her own path and aesthetics. Isn’t this what each woman who loves jewelry longs for?
Kim focuses on honesty, individuality, and eclecticism, going back to striking shapes and powerful statements. Her pieces are timeless and delicate, combining quality with innovative design. This all she surely did accomplish with this collection.
The Blossom Topic collection only uses the most exquisite materials such as gold and diamonds, yet it still manages to be playful and surprising at the same time, highlighting the melodic nature of surprising pairings. It is also about revisiting how diamonds can be worn. Modern yet subtle which also makes our souls blossom. What I personally love about the Blossom Topic collection is how smooth and neat each piece is. So delicate and airy. The variable geometry shapes can either be worn casually or in more sophisticated ways.
