What happens when two long time friends and fellow jewelry designers team up their powers? They open a shop! Yup, I’m here to introduce you OH | BOSTON. The UK-based designers, Michelle Oh and Rachel Boston, opened their shop last year (February 2017) and showcase not only their own creations but also some international designers and homeware brands.
The shop also happens to be their workshop/studio and showroom, all at one place under one roof.
I’ve been a longtime-fan of them both so it was about for me to put OH | BOSTON in the spotlight.
Rachel on how it all began:
“We met at Art university in London, Central Saint Martins where we both studied Jewellery Design BA. After graduating we both started our own individual brands and began sharing workshop spaces together with other independent jewelers. We moved from our first workshop in the heart of the Hatton Garden to a bigger space in East London where we both live and felt was more ‘us’ than the traditional jewelry district. During this time we always talked about starting our own shop, where we would sell our jewelry brands, guest designers combined with homeware and ceramics but it was in always a very distant future kind of way. When we saw a space open up on Cheshire Street off Brick Lane we made an appointment to visit but it was just meant to be to start thinking about a long-term plan, but we fell in love and all of a sudden our three-year plan became a three month one.
Though the shop itself is our joint project we still operate as two individual brands with our own collections and clients. We both specialize in Alternative bridal and bespoke and OH | BOSTON has become a great space to share our work with new and existing clients in a more accessible setting.”
Michelle and Rachel are definitely a great duo and it’s for sure nice to see how they grow together but also apart. I cannot wait to go to London in the near future and give them a visit!
